September, 2011 Dear Interlibrary Loan borrower ~ The Interlibrary Loan Service offered by the Sarasota County Library System will be suspended, beginning September 7, 2011. Requests for borrowing items from other libraries will stop at that time. Items received for requests submitted prior to that date will be processed and borrowers will be notified in the usual fashion. The decision to temporarily stop this valuable service has been a difficult one. In combination with other reductions over the past few years, it is no longer possible to provide the service at the current cost. Library staff is engaged in researching the best practices of library systems that have adapted the ILL program to create models that are more financially sustainable. When it is possible to do so, we plan to resume this valuable service. If you are in need of items not available in the Sarasota County Library system, please speak to a library employee for assistance.
