Selby Library has collections of books in Spanish, French, German and Italian. The collection offers a variety of novels both in translation and in their original language, as well as nonfiction items. In addition, there is an assortment of free informational pamphlets from the government written in Spanish on topics ranging from health to consumer protection. The North Sarasota Library has begun a modest collection of books in Spanish that include both fiction and nonfiction. The Venice Library has a traditional foreign language collection that includes well-known classics in several languages, including Spanish, French, Italian and German. The library is actively seeking to enlarge the collection of popular fiction in Spanish. Many new books in Spanish are also available in the Youth Department. Jacaranda Library has a traditional foreign language collection which includes many well-known classics in Spanish, Ukrainian, Polish, Russian and German. The collection was created for the needs of local ethnic groups but also includes books in Portugese, Hungarian, Dutch and some Asian languages. Library patrons will find a variety of books, from classics to contemporary literature by native and popular American authors, as well as nonfiction. The Fruitville Library has a Spanish Collection of fiction and nonfiction books plus audiovisual materials of interest to our expanding Spanish-speaking population.
